It is easy and fun to perform magic card tricks with just a little practice beforehand. Do a little practicing and you will have tricks that will amaze your audience. Getting ready:

Four cards need to be removed from the deck of cards prior to commencing the trick. A standard deck is needed for this trick, which is a deck with 52 cards. Take out the two red nines and two red sixes. The six of diamonds and hearts and the nine of diamond and hearts are the cards you should have taken out. Put the nine of diamonds on the top of the deck and put the six of hearts right under the deck at the bottom. Make sure the cards are facing down. Take the nine of hearts and six of diamonds out.

To get the trick moving:

Let the audience see the nine of hearts and six of diamonds by laying them facing up on the table, keep the deck in your left hand. In this version you can use any two cards. You might use the six of clubs and the nine of diamonds. Reveal the six of clubs and nine of diamonds to the audience and then add them to your deck, just like you did before. Again the audience will put the cards into the deck from the table in random order. In order to make it easier and exciting you can spread out the deck on the table and let them insert the cards this way. Be sure not to show the face up side. When you squeeze the deck and transfer it you will end up with the exact cards that the audience member has placed into your deck.

Terminator 2 – Judgment Day is one of the best action/sci-fi movies that has ever been put to screen. Though it may not seem like it has much to say about the human condition, it actually has a few things to say. Add to that a little bit of campy dialog and action and some wonderful cinematography and you are left with a very charming movie.

John Conner is supposed to be the great savior of mankind when he grows up. Bass drum creep does not refer to the frightening guy with the bass drum, it is the term used to describe the bothersome circumstance when your kick drum begins sliding further and further away from you with each stroke of your bass drum pedal.

Establishing your kit on a good thick rug or a carpet with spikes at the end of your bass drum legs that can sink their teeth into will usually help keep bass drum creep at bay. (If your bass drum legs do not have spikes, change them with ones that do. Any decent drum shop will carry replacement bass drum legs at an acceptable price.)

Make certain your carpet is large enough to accommodate your whole kit, including your throne. The weight of your body on the throne will help keep the bass drum from sliding away with the entire carpet.

Adjust the bass drum legs to ensure that the front of the drum is an inch or two off the ground and the drum is resting at a bit of a angle. This shifts much more of the drums weight onto the legs themselves and helps the spikes dig in much more effectively, which should put an end to most bass drum creep issues.

Sometimes, particularly for those of us kicking the drum pretty hard in loud situations, laying out on a carpet is simply not enough!

Here is an additional little trick that will End bass drum creep problems.

Take a three foot long 2″x4″ piece of wood. I have a few nice fabric glued all over it to make it look lovely, provide some protection to the drums, and prevent splinters. Now, mark your carpet where you want the front of your bass drum to sit. Drill 3 quarter inch diameter holes through the wood – one hole in the middle and one near each end.

Using some good, large, 2 inch washers and 1/4 inch thick bolts – actually bolt the wood to your carpet at the front edge of your bass drum. Make certain to place the flattest part of the bolt on the under side of the carpet to ensure that your carpet still lays fairly flat. I also like to place a layer or two of gaffer’s tape over the end of the bolt to ensure that it does not scratch up any good wooden floors that are already underneath the carpet.

Now when you set up, just slide the front of the bass drum right up against the piece of wood you have bolted to the carpet, and it will not slide any further!

It works best if you get the wood wide enough that the legs themselves really bump up against the wood block although it’ll work fine with the rim of the drum against the wood block – simply be sure to cover the wood with foam or thick fabric to prevent the wood from harming the rim and lugs of your drum!
